Meet the Experts: Nina Cogan

Great work comes from great people. And we could not do the work we do at DRG without the many experts that contribute to our team.

Meet Nina Cogan, one of our talent consulting experts.

What is your role within DRG?

I came to DRG in March 2022 as a Talent Consultant and have been in that role ever since! In my role as a Consultant, I partner with mission-driven organizations on searches for specific job opportunities.

I describe myself to people as a matchmaker between clients and candidates. We have an intentional search process that – by the end – will result in an aligned and fantastic match. We spend a lot of time focusing on alignment and competencies across candidates and our partner organizations and the roles they’re seeking to fill.

A week in the life ranges from interviews, launching a search, candidate presentations, discovery conversations, to maybe even getting an offer letter signed and a search closed. No two weeks are the same!

What would you want organizations to know about DRG?

Organizations should know that our firm is not transactional in our work – we’re the opposite. We pride ourselves on the values of our company, how we each show up in our respective roles, and the level of intention and care that goes into every deliverable and candidate/client interaction. Our team is comprised of professionals from all walks of life and all different kinds of backgrounds. Most importantly, we are committed to your values and ensuring that our process is setting you up for success (and what that uniquely looks like to you). Good people work for DRG.

What is the best piece of advice you have ever received?

“You cannot control what others think of you or what they do, but you can control how you react and respond to it.”

Easier said that done, right? I have this written on a Post-It that I keep close to my monitor as a little reminder for the times when I get too caught up in my own worries.

What brings you joy in your free time?

I feel really fortunate that I’ve been able to discover what true, authentic joy means to me in recent years. I’ve been an artist my whole life, and when I’m not painting, doing renter-friendly renovations to my apartment brings me joy. Aside from being creative, being a foster mom to dogs through City Dogs City Kitties in Washington DC is when I’m my most authentic and truest self. I also really value the power of exercise (spin, pickleball, yoga) and what that does for my mind.

Which book/movie/tv show/podcast etc. is at the top of your list right now?

Depending on the day, I’m more often that not listening to Morbid or The Morning Toast. I still refuse to watch the end of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel because I can’t emotionally come to terms with the fact that the show ended. Any season of Queer Eye makes me smile inside and out. Gilmore Girls is my comfort show always!

Anything else you’d like to share?

I feel really fortunate to be with DRG. Though we’re a remote company, I still feel a sense of connection and a bond with my colleagues. I think that’s a testament to the kind of people that we are and what we each stand for. To our partner organizations: thank you for trusting us to support your missions and your people.
