Happy to announce that Sr. Caroline Tweedy, RSM has been appointed Executive Director at St. John’s Bread & Life. Tweedy reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for assisting the Board in developing a strategic vision for the organization and ensuring that the overall operations, programmatic services and fundraising strategies are effectively implemented in a manner that is consistent with the organization’s mission. There, she will continue to promote an organizational culture that is client focused and that fosters passion for the mission and a sense of community.
Sr. Caroline joined St. John’s Bread & Life in February 2016 as its first-ever Associate Executive Director, a new position, designed to bolster the agency’s management as it sets about formalizing its plans to grow and meet the needs of the community. Prior to joining Bread & Life, Sr. Caroline had spent more than a quarter century as the Chief Development Officer of Brooklyn’s Mercy Home for Children, where she was a Member of the agency’s Executive Cabinet. She also served as the Board Chair at Dorothy Bennett, a community center serving the Fort Greene and Bedford-Stuyvesant communities of Brooklyn.
St. John’s Bread & Life (“Bread & Life”) works to alleviate hunger and poverty in Brooklyn and Queens. It was founded in 1982 on the principles of St Vincent de Paul and the Catholic teaching to respect each person, serve those in need, and build human solidarity. Bread & Life lives out their mission by respecting the inherent dignity of those who are poor and by meeting the immediate needs of those living in poverty while providing avenues to move people out of poverty. Bread & Life partners their hunger programs with a comprehensive array of services designed to help people achieve self-sufficiency and increased stability.
