We are pleased to announce that Dr. Thomas Howard has been appointed Executive Director of The Bronx Charter Schools for Better Learning (BBL). Dr. Howard will directly manage a team of academic, operations, programs, and community engagement professionals and is ultimately responsible for the outcomes of the more than 800 students served in grades Pre-K through 5th grade across two schools. As the new ED, Dr. Howard will serve as the key external representative of the schools to the academic, philanthropic and local Bronx community.
The Bronx Charter Schools for Better Learning provide their students with a solid foundation for academic success, through achievement that exceeds citywide averages and meets or exceeds New York State Standards and national norms in all curriculum areas tested, especially in mathematics and language arts. Almost all of BBL’s students are Hispanic or African-American, many from families that have recently immigrated from the Caribbean and Africa. More than 80 percent of the students are from low-income families. Now, after its approved replication three years ago, BBL 1 and BBL 2 together currently serve over 800 students in Pre-K through 5th Grade.
